A Colorado couple was charged Saturday with marijuana distribution in North Platte, after police found them on the west side of the city, fighting in a car that contained a half-pound of pot.

Police got a call at 8:37 a.m. Saturday about a disturbance between a man and woman in a vehicle near Philip and Lakeview, police spokesman John Deal said.

An officer found the white Nissan Altima near A and Michael, just a block west of Buffalo Bill Ave. The car had Colorado license plates, matching the description from a witness, Deal said.

The officer identified the driver as Steffan Sprinkle and the passenger, Stephanie Wallo.

Deal said Wallo had abrasions on several places and a redness on her neck, according to the police report.

Wallo told the officer she and Sprinkle were arguing and Sprinkle purposely slammed on the brakes, which caused her to hit her head on the dash.

Wallo said she tried to get out of the car more than once, but Sprinkle grabbed her and kept her from leaving. She said at one point Sprinkle choked her, too.

Sprinkle was charged with domestic assault, strangulation and false imprisonment.

While talking to the couple, police smelled a strong odor of raw marijuana from inside of the vehicle, Deal said. A search turned up individual packages of marijuana as well as a scale, numerous empty plastic bags and a marijuana grinder.

There was nearly a half-pound of marijuana inside the vehicle, Deal said.

Wallo and Sprinkle were both charged with possession of marijuana with intent to deliver.

Wallo was previously wanted for driving under a suspended license and leaving the scene of an accident, so she faces those charges now.

Deal said both Sprinkle and Wallo live in Colorado, but one of them has ties to North Platte. He did not specify which one.

Sprinkle's bond was set at $100,000 and Wallo's at $50,000, according to Lincoln County sheriff's records.
